Welcome from Principal Searl

Dear Armatage Families,

I am excited to be starting my third year as the principal at Armatage Elementary School. Armatage is a special place that has a long history of academic excellence, a focus on caring for the whole child, and brings a strong sense of community for all of our stakeholders. We have a dedicated teaching and support staff who care deeply for our school, many of whom have been here for fifteen plus years and brought their own children to school here. It is truly an amazing elementary school, and I am honored to continue to serve as the principal.

For fifteen years prior to coming to Armatage I worked in Bloomington Public Schools as a 4th grade teacher, dean of students, and assistant principal. I adored my time in the classroom and will always be a teacher first. My greatest sense of accomplishment as a classroom teacher was watching my students grow throughout the year; academically, socially, and emotionally. Now, as the principal at Armatage, I continue to take pride in supporting our entire community by forming strong relationships in order to meet the needs of our students, families, and educators.

I attended the University of Minnesota as an undergrad and earned my elementary education teaching license from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I am a Gopher at heart and am a big Gopher sports fan. I earned my masters degree and principal license from the University of Saint Mary’s, Twin Cities campus.

I live with my wife Jodi and son Bennett in the Diamond Lake neighborhood. We love living in Minneapolis. Bennett will be in first grade at Windom Elementary School this year! We feel very fortunate that I will be on the same school schedule as my son, and it makes me proud to work in the same district where he attends. My promise to families is to do all I can to provide their children the same high quality educational experience that I hope my son receives.
